EXCURSION TO THE FILM STUDIO “RWS”

Who among us has not dreamed of seeing the film industry from the inside? A magical world in which the wildest fantasies come to life. Now it is possible.

Usually, the oldest film studios such as Lenfilm are popular, with a rich collection of props and equipment. But lesser-known film studios can also offer interesting excursions.

The RWS film studio in the Primorsky district of St. Petersburg was founded in 2008 as one of the most modern production complexes with a full cycle of filming services.

My idea of the film industry was formed from the cartoon “Well, wait!”, Where a wolf chased a hare around the TV studio. A long corridor with many doors.

Here, at the entrance, we were greeted by a model by which we can estimate the area of the complex.

Then I saw the same corridor with doors.

On the walls there are paintings and photographs of the shooting process and celebrities. The studio took part in the production of the film franchise “Fir Trees”, “Burnt by the Sun”, serials for “Channel One” and the “Russia” channel.

At the moment, the cinema complex has 6 pavilions, its own cinematography, a shop for the production of scenery, post-production (editing, color correction, voice acting, etc.), and its own vehicle fleet.

In the pavilions there is complete soundproofing, which is almost physically felt. You can write “live sound”. Cobwebs of cables hang and spread.

More than a million dollars worth of equipment is in stock and most of the equipment is leased to television companies.

The pavilions are bored with sets from past or existing projects. A group of up to 80 people usually work on one set.

You can feel like a hero of a film and take a photo. As the excursion is for children, we act out scenes. The children are delighted.

A chromakey pavilion where you can shoot anything, then create any background and insert computer characters. Great for fantasy.

Further editing and dubbing. The sound is recorded every second.

From the moment of filming completion to the release of the film, it takes from six months. In addition to editing and dubbing, frame-by-frame color correction is done, and much more. Along the way, we find out that the highest paid profession in cinema is a color corrector.

And now the most interesting thing is the dressing room. It is here that scars, ulcers appear, appearance changes, facial features acquire different proportions, age changes. The collection of wigs and all kinds of accessories kept the children here for a long time. My daughter drew a fresh scar, which she liked so much that she did not wanted to wash it off and frightened oncoming passers-by on the way back.

Since 2016, the film studio has received the status of a city-wide cultural center. Today, the site is open for exhibitions, festivals and other cultural events. The task is not only to entertain the viewer, but also to bring new knowledge and popularize the processes of the film industry.

On the basis of the film studio, there is a Museum of Russian TV Series, where you can learn about their history of origin, interesting facts from the shooting, try on costumes, visit filming pavilions and an exhibition of film posters.

While watching a movie, we often don’t think about how it was filmed, and where it comes from. At the film studio, it costs nothing to insert any view into the window, to do it at any time of the day, regardless of the time of shooting. Show any dangerous tricks, worlds and universes, in fact non-existent and filmed on a chroma key. One involuntarily recalls the phrase of Denis de Vito “Who is related to cinema, knows that the film industry is 90% lies.”
“How can I watch films now? -My child is upset, I didn’t notice it before, but now I see that this is a pavilion, but this cannot be ..”
What can I do, actors will not be needed soon.
