Chile,  South America

Huilo Huilo

A nature reserve in southern Chile, on the border with Argentina. A private natural park that looks like a fairytale country. The park has bizarre hotels built from materials from this zone. Interestingly, the land was originally bought to cut down and sell the forest, but the project turned out to be unprofitable and turned to a recreation area and a popular tourist destination with bizarre construction fantasies. The main hotel has a tree inside and all rooms are arranged in a spiral. There is a mushroom-shaped hotel

This is one of my favorite places in Chile. Wooden houses, the sound of the river, the territory of the reserve, which is included in the 25 endangered ecoregions of the planet. Fantastic air and landscapes. This time we looked at the Baobab hotel. Built in a spiral around a tree, with a waterfall inside and a circular observation deck with benches on the roof, is an unusual attraction in itself.

The Magic Mountain hotel with a waterfall and a suspension bridge. It was supposed to be overgrown with grass, but apparently no one expected that vegetation would occupy the building so much. It looks quite old, the entrance to the bridge is prohibited.

One of the entertainments is a mini-bath in a barrel. It is heated with wood and can be enjoyed in the open air.

In the reserve there are wooden platforms that connect the hotels. You can rent a golf car. The trees have been lovingly bypassed, making holes for them.

The so-called Mapuche mushroom grows right on the trees. The locals eat them right from the tree. Nalka also grows here.

On the territory there is a restaurant, quite cozy, the menu has not been tried.

A sculpture park and a place for meditation. Fortunately, the atmosphere is favorable. The air is divine, silence, tranquility. Statues of Buddha.

You can walk to the waterfall of the same name. In spring it is in full force, makes noise from afar, you can follow the sound.

The park is inhabited by animals, including deer, I didn’t come across them. But they were there. Also different types of trees, many are decorated with signs.

We lived in separate houses, away from the main hotel. “Cabaña”, in Spanish. Overlooking the river, a terrace, barbecue, two bedrooms and a fireplace. The houses are simply magical. A local cat came to us to sleep. The dog also stopped by)

The reserve also has a cable car, a zoo and a volcano museum. There is a zipline on which you can ride, but where I did not see, only a sign. On the way to the museum, we came across a hobbit’s house, it is also for rent.

The Volcano Museum displays the history and everyday objects of the Incas, Aztecs, Mapuche and other indigenous peoples of South America.

The museum itself is in the form of a volcano, two floors, where objects for each of the civilizations are presented in a spiral. There is a mine where coal was mined. And a capsule in which you can launch upward from the mouth of a volcano mine. Most of the second floor is occupied by a collection of stones and minerals.

In the village, not far from our cabanos, there are houses that are also rented to tourists. The houses are built in the style of the Mapuche Indians.

There is also a theme park where you can try different activities of the local Indian population and learn about their history. All the houses are in the Mapuche style.

Near the reserve is the port of Puerto Fuy, from where you can take a ferry ride on the lake, look at the passing views, face the wind and the sun (provided that it is not stinging). Look at the mountains covered with forest. The ferry makes an hour stop along the route. , you can get off in a village sandwiched in the mountains. Feel its atmosphere, wander through the quiet streets. A ticket costs about 120 rubles.

I liked the reserve itself especially from the whole trip, I would like to live there longer, feel the atmosphere of complete relaxation and unity with nature, listen to the noise of the river, rustle of trees, purr of a cat, inhale the smells of grass, trees, a burnt fireplace …

But time flies quickly, it’s time to go.
